Review: The Wraeththu series is a series of books that takes place in an alternate future where Humanity has evolved into another species known as Wraeththu. Wraeththu are a species of hermaphrodite like beings. Human's can become a member of this new species by a ritual known as Inception, such inceptions are rare though because most Wraeththu despise humans and either avoid contact with humans or kill humans they come into contact with.

This story takes place before any of the books and is a good introduction to the ideas and beliefs of the humans turned Wraeththu as they deal with the changes in their lives and the world around them. It's a dark story that describes the beginnings of a genocide that would eventually wipe out the human race, but it is beautifully poignant in the way it contrasts Seel and Cal's human memories with their Wraeththu existence.
