Summary:
He was nine when his three-year-old brother could do his math homework. Don through the years.
Review:
This is a long, satisfying read with a great view of Don as he grows up, seemingly living in his younger brother’s shadow, and how he drifts forward, searching for his place. I love entangled and complicated sibling relationships and this one hits my buttons. The Don point of view is strong and tangible. One of the things I enjoyed about this story was the way the writing and Don’s thoughts changed as he grew older. In the beginning the author conveys the thought patterns of a nine year old boy, focused on baseball and playing. As Don matures so does the point of view.
This is a great story that weaves what we know of the characters’ back stories into a realistic and plausible pre canon.
