Though Criminal Minds often shows the dark side of humanity, things could have been a lot worse for its protagonists if they had made different choices.

This is such a stunning fic because, for all that the alternate universes we are presented to are wildly different from how things turned out on screen, it's very easy to understand how these "might have been" scenarios could have come to pass. This "there but for the grace of God" feeling that runs through the entire piece combined with the solid writing creates a powerful, well written story that stays with you long after you've finished reading it.
