Summary:
In which Brad is a desperately self-sacrificing HRH, Nate is not happy about being blind-sided, Ray wants to kill the Swedish press corps, and Walt is present in the background like a good bodyguard.
Review:
For recs this week I’ve got a pair of GK AU’s that I’ve read over the past few months and greatly enjoyed. The first is Strange Courtship which is an AU that has Nate, working for CNAS post-Iraq, meeting Brad at a conference. It’s a case of mistaken identity right away as Nate doesn’t realize that Brad is the Crown Prince of Sweden.
The fic itself is spare, the chapters short, but there is a wealth of storytelling contained within. I enjoyed the outsider points of view, in addition to those of Brad and Nate when telling their story. I thought the Swedish details were fascinating and particularly enjoyed how the author was able to lift Brad and Ray (and Walt though we don’t see him much) into a different country and culture, yet still retain their unique relationship and core characteristics.
Overall this was a wonderfully enjoyable read that was very well done and entertaining.

Summary:
Nate thinks: Not dancing is not living. He doesn’t say it.
Review:
This is a fantastic AU that takes the characters from GK and puts them into the world of televised dance competitions. I have little to no knowledge of the various dance styles used in this fic but thought the author did a great job filling in the details making it ring true and easy to visualize. I liked the structure of the story and the way the sections are interspersed with snippets from montages or interviews. I particularly liked the ending sequence and thought the interview Brad gave and what he revealed vs. didn’t reveal was so true to character.
I thought the author did a fantastic job translating the characters and their personalities into the dance world thus making a highly enjoyable AU story. Ray was still Ray, Rudy was a joy, Poke was fun and Walt was great. I really can’t say enough positive things about this fic because I highly enjoyed all of it and thought it was very well done.
