Title: Escape Me Never
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Willow/Angel, Willow/Angelus
Categories: Angst, Dark, Hurt/Comfort (kind of)
Length: Epic (41,062)
Warnings: non-con, dub-con, character death, torture, ambiguous ending

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip
Author Website: The Velvet Vampire

Summary: What if nobody had been around to save Willow when Angelus had her in the hallway?

Review:
I seriously debated about reccing this. It is extremely well written, however it is a very dark fic. What makes this fic unique amongst the majority of dark!fic is there are real consequences to the horrific trauma. The symptoms aren't brushed away by a cup of tea, a hot shower and an intense crying jag. It's much more inline with what would actually happen to a person that endured that kind of torture. That said, there are a few bright spots in the story, it's not all horror and torture, but the happiness comes at a price.

If you can handle the ambiguous ending, it's well worth reading.

Escape Me Never

Title: Jeeves and the Blessed Indiscretion
Fandom: Jeeves & Wooster
Pairing: Reginald Jeeves/Bertram Wooster
Categories: Humor
Length: Medium (4,358 words)
Warnings: blackmail, references to homophobia in 1920s society

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astolat / [personal profile] astolat
Author Website: Intimations / faviconastolat

Review:
Jeeves is being blackmailed. Bertie overhears and saves the day, in his own inimitable fashion. A light and frothy fic, with a little hint of angst underneath for poor Jeeves's situation. I imagine if the tale had been told from Jeeves's perspective, there would be buckets of angst as he worries about what the blackmailer will do. Fortunately, Bertie has noticed something is wrong, and both his take on things and his methods are simultaneously hilarious and effective. (As his conscripted assistant says "God looks after fools and madmen.") In the end, Jeeves's secrets are safe, and the two come to a surprising and mutually beneficial understanding.

It's such a fun story, and one I've used for a pick-me-up on occasion. It's astonishing how much astolat fits into less than five thousand words of fic, the characterization and humor and action. For once, Jeeves needs someone to fix things, and Bertie does it in spades.
