Title: Resistance Series (per reccer) aka Claire/Wesker saga (per author)
Fandom: Resident Evil
Pairing: Claire Redfield/Albert Wesker
Categories: Action, Romance, Drama
Length: Super Epic (242,000+ for series)
Warnings: Character death, mentions of human experimentation, violence, some gore (not enough to turn me away and I have a pretty low gore tolerance factor)
Author on LJ: None that I can find
Author Website: Link to Author’s page at FFN
Summary:
Claire is determined to help stop the viral, chain reaction that Umbrella originally caused, but when she steals a virus from Wesker, she gets more than she bargained for.
Review:
I’ve never played Resident Evil, and have only seen parts of the movies, but for some reason when I stumbled across this series a few years ago it stuck with me, even though I know nothing of this universe beyond the basics. In the interest of full disclosure, I love to read fic set in fandoms I know nothing about, so I’m used to accepting the fact that I won’t understand everything. The series is one of my guilty pleasures that I’ll go back and re-read about once a year. It reminds me of those Harlequin novels I used to read as an impressionable teen, and I mean that in the nicest possible way because I *loved* those books.
If you like a little action with your romance this series hits the spot. It’s the classic Romeo and Juliet storyline, with lovers from warring families, if Romeo had introduced a virus into his system to become a super human “tyrant” who was virtually unkillable. There is plenty of back and forth with our star-crossed lovers coming together then falling apart before coming back together again. There is a slow building friendship with moments of uncertainty and miscommunication mixed in with things like death, rebirth, scary creatures and human experimentation. One of the things I liked about this series is that Wesker is a tyrant and his end goal is domination, this is not sugar coated, and Claire is not blind to his faults.
If I have a quibble with this series it’s that it is so long. If I’m trying to read it straight through, I find that it drags a little for me in the fourth and fifth stories. Sometimes I’ll take a little break for a few days and come back energized and ready to finish.

Title: The Sex Shop Around The Corner
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Categories: Humor, Fluff
Length: Long (~25,000 words)
Warnings: not as much kinky sex as the title implies.
Author on LJ:
hermette
Website: n/a
Summary: Nothing says I love you like a ball gag.
Review:
Hee-hee, this is a really sweet modern-day AU where Merlin is the proprietor of a sex shop and Arthur is a business executive who has recently come to the realization that he may, in fact, be gay. Merlin, being the erect pillar of the gay community that he is, tries very earnestly to help him, much to Arthur's embarrassment.
This a sweet, and basically inoffensive AU, with many beloved story devices, jealousy, coming out, mistaken identity and gay sex manuals with soul-shriveling, embarrassing titles. The flow of some of the scenes can be a little choppy, and the 'mistaken identity' romantic subplot seems tacked-on, though highly adorable and smish-worthy. But if your fannish marshmallow center has a quirky sense of humor, clickity-click on the link below. :)
