Summary: After Chronicles. Riddick's looking for the best advisor he can get, Dame Vaako's looking for power, Vaako's looking for a way out...
Review: Right hand is a feel-good, fluffy, destined to be together romance, set against a wartime backdrop. Their is marching to battle, attempted assassinations, the destruction of every person on an entire planet, all of which adds needed depth to both the word created in the Riddick movies and the characters.
Despite the extremely well rendered action/adventure details it was the romance that stuck with me. Riddick is a sweet, possessive boyfriend who is sure about what he wants without sacrificing Vaako's personal wants and needs in order to move their relationship forward. Vaako is an empath who isn't sure of who he is or what he wants.
It's an interesting dynamic, I've most often seen and enjoy, in fantasy stories. While this sci-fi rendition is a nice change of pace. The unfortunate consequence of the set-up is that the story is kept from reaching it's full potential as a hard science fiction story. There are hints of the very interesting culture Elfnight created for the Necromongers but they fall by the wayside in the last act of the story.
Despite and partially because of it's weaknesses as a Sci-fi thriller this is still a story I often go back to when I need something warm and fluffy to read. I highly recommend it for anyone with even a passing knowledge of the Riddick series and a love of romances.
