Once Bitten, by Fyre (PG-13)

Sorry I forgot to post this yesterday! XS

Title: Once Bitten
Fandom: Castle
Pairing: Gen
Categories: Humor, Horror, Supernatural
Length: Long (~9900 words)
Warnings: vampires, ridiculousness

Author: Fyre
Website: Works on AO3

Summary: Richard Castle likes to believe that there are monsters and aliens out there, waiting to cause chaos. Trouble is that this time, he's right.

Review:
Hee, this is a hilarious case fic about the NYPD crew coming up against the fantastic and unexplained death of a girl, with bite marks on her neck. I loved how they try to explain it logically, and Castle is bouncing around about vampires. The ambiguity of whether or not the perp is a real vampire is one of the reasons this fic stuck with me, and the suspense is palpable until the end. I love it when the 'real' world is confronted with the unexplainable, and to see it done well in a fandom that doesn't regularly deal with fantasy and the supernatural is equally awesome. In conclusion, Kate Beckett FTW.

The Long Road by triedunture (PG-13)

Title: The Long Road.
Fandom: Jeeves and Wooster.
Pairing: Jeeves/Bertie.
Categories: Angst, Drama, Hurt/Comfort.
Length: Epic.
Warnings: OC death and suicide mentioned.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] triedunture
Author Website: n/a

Author's Summary:
"A very bad thing happens. And then we must go on."

Review:
Jeeves is seriously hurt during a mugging and his sister and estranged father come to help Bertie look after him.

I'll start of by saying that the plot of this story - narrated in third person - is very different from Wodehouse's usual amusing escapades. While Bertie and Jeeves are very much in character, the situations they react to and the level of angst in the fic may not be ideal for those that read the Jeeves stories mostly for the comedy and the idyllic view of the world they represent.

That being said, this is a phenomenally well written fic. The plot is solid, the emotional repercussions well written and though there is a lot of hurt, the comfort side of the fic is also strong and prevails in the end. The OCs were excellent without exception and I particularly enjoyed triedunture's version of Jeeves' father, a character we seldom see in fic.

All in all, this is a long and ultimately satisfying fic for those who like a long, angsty road leading to the happy ending.

The Long Road (link to chapter twelve, with links to all previous parts and a link to a .pdf version of the entire fic at the bottom)
An excellent podfic version read by [livejournal.com profile] suzumenoko is also available.
