Three Castles, by Rageprufrock (PG-13)

  • Feb. 15th, 2011 at 12:28 AM
It's Valentine's Day, and to celebrate, we're having a Harlequin Week!

Title: Three Castles
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Categories: Humor, Harlequin, Romance, AU
Length: Medium (~4500 words)
Warnings: n/a

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
Website: Works on AO3

Summary: It’s a perfectly wretched day in Camelot when Uther Pendragon announces Arthur’s betrothal.

Review:
This is one of Pru's earliest Merlin fics, and it remains one of my favorites. I liked Arthur and Merlin's chemistry within, and I'm a big fan of the genre of 'arranged marriages to help the monarchy'. This isn't as polished as some of Pru's other works (like "Drastically Redefining Protocol"), but I still love it. It has the snappy banter that I've come to expect from the author, and is funny and sweet in all the right places. I liked the OMC, Prince Bernard, solely for the fact that he is fun to watch fail, and the plot he comes up with ridiculous and hilarious by turns. If you like lolarious gay arranged royal marriages, mistaken identities, lots of banter and unapologetic fluff, then you ought to take a gander to the link below.

Engaging The Enemy by tsukinofaerii (PG)

Title: Engaging The Enemy.
Fandom: Marvel: Adventures.
Pairing: Steve/Tony.
Categories: Action, AU, Fluff, Harlequin, Humor.
Length: Long (~23,000 words).
Warnings: None.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tsukinofaerii
Author Website: tsukinofaerii @ AO3

Author's Summary:
"Iron Man is one of the more persistent villains that the Ultimates face, with a special fondness for one Captain America. As Steve starts to find out more and more about him, the lines between hero and villain begin to blur. Sometimes, you don't have to be on the right side of the law to be in the right."

Review:
Iron Man is a criminal mastermind; Captain America is an iconic superhero. Though they are supposed to be on different sides, the attraction between sizzles. Their tentative relationship, however. changes when a secret Iron Man is keeping comes to light...

This was my absolute favorite fic to come out of [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman 's secret santa challenge. Not only is this a fantastic AU, but this is a Marvel Adventures AU, which means that besides the great plot and spot-on characterization, we get as a bonus tons of fluff and humorous banter. Steve and Tony's relationship is beyond adorable and the Ultimates and Tony's friends make the most of their supporting roles. All in all, a delightful read for those in need of some lighthearted adventures.
