The bonding in this one is top-notch. The back-story behind it, the fact that it’s left more general, the reaction to it, all add up to one stellar bonding. This does a good job of capturing the 50’s spirit, while not going over the top with it.

The homophobia aspect was too rushed, and I think, perhaps, shouldn’t have been mentioned at all. It didn’t get the time in this story it truly deserved. And honestly the story would have to be extended at least 10,000 words to give it enough gravity. Still, a really great story.
