Review: In the Xena fandom the idea of Joxer being turned into a god is hardly unusual and Controlling Chaos sticks faithfully to this concept. What sets this story apart is the way that Multi-mapper weaves concepts of family, love and duty into the story. The story doesn't just deal with the romance between Joxer and Ares, but with how their relationship changes the rest of the Pantheon. Particularly Joxer's family and the House of War. One of the most interesting parts of the story is how the different aspects of love, lust, and revenge are highlighted.

The relationships between Hera and Zeus is particularly interesting. Even in Mythology the relationship between the King and Queen of the Gods is shown to be particularly strained, and its interesting to see a writer hold both of them accountable for their actions. Despite their less than happy beginning, both Hera and Zeus find happiness with other lovers.

There are a number of other romances between the various Gods, and I am very impressed with Multi-mappers ability to keep all of them straight and very real feeling as well as they way she wove traditional mythological stories and characters into the Xena fandom.

This is one of my favorite Xena fics because of Multi-mappers deft handling of the darker parts of Mythology. She doesn't shy away from showing the uglier side of the past, but she doesn't feel the need to dwell on it either.

Controlling Chaos is a fun and fast moving read for anyone who likes unusual romances, quirky but understandable characters, and a feel-good ending.
