This story totally got me going even though football ranks pretty high on my list of “Sports I’ll Never Understand” (I had to use Google to figure out what the title means, and if you are as clueless as me when it come to football terminology, here’s a good summary page).

One of the main reasons I decided to rec this story is its lightness in terms of themes compared other slash set in a professional sports AU (for whatever reason, the baseball ones tend to be dark and depressing, and I completely gave up on hockey stories after reading one in the Due South fandom). Jared and Jensen have a fairly non-complicated relationship and most of their close friends are generally accepting of them being gay. The part where Jared proves to all the other players that he is capable of kicking anyone’s ass -- gay or not – was excellently written (although I was somewhat worried about Jared’s repeated head trauma…foot ball seems like a violent sport). Jensen’s character is just as strong in this story, and he comes out to play alongside with Jared in a final game, which is just beautiful.

A great story about boys who love each other and their sport just as much!
