Title: Everything Has a Price
Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Categories: Angst, post-series
Length: Very Long
Warnings: die hard fans of Megan should proably steer clear

Author on LJ: n/a
Website: http://www.squidge.org/~theforest/legion/legion.html

Review:
Blair ends up accepting that badge at the end of the series and proceeds to throw himself into being the best police officer he can be, which is why it takes him so long to realize that something very odd is going on in Major Crimes. Even odder, Jim is simply not behaving like himself at all, and Blair isn't at all sure of what he can do to fix the problem.

This is one of the most unique post-TSbyBS fics I've ever read, primarily in the characterization of Jim. In some respects he's the Jim we all know and love (even if he is being exasperating) but he's also a Jim who has taken a long look at himself and his actions and what his actions almost cost him. The end result is fascinating and while I would have loved to have some of the story be in Jim's POV (because I'd really like to have seen some of his thought processes), the story is better being strictly from Blair's POV, showing us the changes and getting us caught up in the mystery of what is going on with Jim. A thoughtful, layered characterization that helps this story stand out from the crowd.

A Hundred Happy Things by Busaikko (NC-17)

A lighter story for the last rec of February before we hit the dark-themed stories for March. Oh, all the twisted tales I have for you...

Title
: A Hundred Happy Things
Fandom: SGA
Pairing: John/Rodney
Category: drama, romance, harlequin, kid
Length: long (30,000)
Warnings: reference to the verbal abuse of a child and physical violence; Ford and Jeannie misbehave

Author on LJ
: [livejournal.com profile] busaikko
Website: busaikko's fanfic webpage

Author's Summary: Harlequin AU (no Stargate). Kaleb's long gone, Jeannie's got a career, Madison has problems, Rodney's got Inner Power!, and Sheppard. . . is pretty much the same.

Review:
Follow Rodney's journey has he learns to be a parent (to Madison), meets the love of his life, and discovers his Inner Power (exclamation mark).

Rodney and Madison get sent by Madison's counsellor to Teyla's Discover Your Inner Power! class, where they meet one Jona Sheppard. Featuring a broken-and-awkward Rodney, an even more broken-and-awkward John, a slightly-bratty Madison, and wonderfully fleshed-out secondary characters. Through the exchange of snarky comments and dates with (and without) Madison, Rodney and John slowly begin to understand the meaning of "you have the power to change your life".

There's much more to this story than your regular harlequin romance, but you'll have to make that discovery yourself. Busaikko is a terrific writer. In her wonderfully detailed story, I think you will find more than one hundred happy things. Highly recommended.
