Review:
The five stories of the “Fire” series (Fire, Daze, Hope, Seek and Rapture) are set just after the events of the two “Equinox” episodes. Tom breaks up with B’Elanna after finding out that she cheated on him with her ex-boyfriend, Maxwell Burke (the Equinox’s First Officer). His reaction to that (or lack thereof) leads to a passionate encounter with Chakotay, after which they are found by B’Elanna herself. This starts a chain of events that will lead to them admitting their feelings for each other and having to go through a lot of misunderstandings to build something together.

Despite beginning the stories with a somewhat impromptu round of sex between Tom and Chakotay (which is a bit farfetched, though properly explained), the author still manages to keep the characters true to themselves: Tom acting like an idiot when he is unsure of himself, Chakotay trying to lock away his feelings, B’Elanna venting her anger before realizing the consequences, Harry being incredibly protective. There are a couple of nitpicks I have with the story (Chakotay’s nicknames, some purple prose when it comes to the sex scenes), but overall it is a rather enjoyable read.
