I'd completely forgot we're having a theme week (though I do hope you'll like this rec); sorry folks, the promised "BDSM-'verse" story will be recc'd next week.

Title
: Thirty-Five Owls
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald
Category: angst, pre-series, epistolary
Length: medium
Warnings: deaths of canon characters (you know who they are); one mention of possible past kinky sex

Author on LJ: [profile] wired_lizard
Website: The Letterblade Library

Author's Summary
: Go teach your children, eat your candy, preen your bird and bury me. But we were brilliant together, Albus, and not even you can change history -- a correspondence between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald

Review:
Written before THE BIG REVEAL regarding Dumbledore's private life!

People say that everyone will always remember their first true love. When you are old and lonely, all you have left are memories of young lovers from a time when life was simple (::no dark lords and such::) and love was pure. At least that's probably how Albus and Gellert remember their youth because half a century (i.e. how long Grindelwald has been locked up) is just about long enough to forget all about each other's faults.

This story isn't very long (~11k) but it feels epic, possibly because the letter correspondences span over four decades. Some of the letters are funny, some of them are full of angst, some of them made me want to smack either Albus or Gellert (or BOTH), and some of them made me cry. The last two letters are especially heart-wrenching. ::sobs::
