The story starts off with a major character death, and while it's canonical, a lot of us (i.e. fans) don't want to see him dead. Please, please don't let this discourage you. Just start reading; you might feel pain in your chest, your eyes may become moist, but you'll find that at the end of story, all of our beloved characters have found closure, and perhaps even happiness.
