Review:
While the genre of "characters write fanfic/are part of XYZ fandom!" isn't exactly new or few in number, there isn't often fic that will make me think "Yeah, that's how I feel to be part of fandom" or even "This didn't make me cringe in shame! Yay!". Add to that the characteristics of "long" and "well-written", and I may as well be hunting Moby Dick. But I really enjoyed this fic, and despite it being conceived from a kink meme prompt, this is probably one of my favorite fandom fics in any fandom.* (No offense meant to kink memes, but I don't exactly expect to find fluffy epics of hilarity and meta when I trawl through the threads. I expect to find porn, veritable acres of lands sown with wonderful smut of many and varied tastes.) I liked the plot, though it can't exactly be called "unique", boy meets boy on the internet, one's a BNF and the other's a big fan, and they meet by chance on a comm. There's snark and IM and ~FEELINGS~, and they are both as cute as a pair of kittens viciously mauling a cupcake. I liked how a lot of the story is told through IM, lj posts and google docs, and it really gives the feel of being in fandom for me. They go to conventions and pine after each other, even as everyone else is silently screaming for them to just jump their bones already! This is fluffy and sweet, and while not the most realistic or cerebral fic ever, it's still nicely twisty and full of meta. If you like fandom or internet romances, I'd suggest a read. (As a bonus, this comm gets a mention! That made me happy :) )
