Review:
Losing the ability to talk doesn’t mean you can’t communicate even when you don’t intend to.

Imagine has long been one of my favorite authors in the Stargate SG-1 fandom, so when I stumbled upon this fic, which explores one of my favorite episodes from the show, “The Fifth Race”, I was overjoyed. Told from both Daniel and Jack’s perspectives, this fic doesn’t necessarily stray far from the episode – in fact, some of the dialogue is lifted from it – but it’s the things that aren’t said and the scenes that weren’t in it that make this story. Jack – whose voice, mind, and body are slowly being hijacked – is as desperate to be understood as Daniel is to ‘hear’ him and Imagine does a wonderful job making the reader understand that. Though there are a few cheesy and questionable moments in the story, fans of this pairing will definitely enjoy this episode re-telling with its Jack and Daniel twist.

Title: Operator
Fandom: Stargate SG-1, The Matrix
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Categories: Action/Adventure, Crossover, Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Established Relationship
Length: Long
Warnings: None

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] troyswann
Website: Outside The Box

Author's Summary: Jack stands behind Daniel and looks through the streaming code at the digital dream Sam Carter thinks of as herself. Like everyone in the matrix, she's asleep. Unlike them, she almost knows it.

Review:
This is one of those fics that pulls you along by your shirt collar, stumbling and tripping, but so worth all the bruises given by the end. That's not to say it's a particularly dark story, but it is one that makes you sit on the edge of your seat and take notice that something good is about to happen. Which is perfect, in my opinion, because that's exactly how the original 'The Matrix' made me feel.

Salieri does a fantasic job of taking all the old familiar characters and making them new; giving them a sense of purpose and urgency that is similar to both television show and movie, even if the setting has been tweaked a bit. Even with the story being focused almost solely on the Stargate SG-1 characters, there are still a few Matrix cameos that nicely round it out and give it just the right touch. Alll things told, if you're a fan of 'The Matrix' or just like a really well thought out fusion fic, this is one for you to try.

Title: House In Atlantis Series
Fandom: House/Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG1

Length: Medium (15,400)
Warnings: adultery

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] belladonna_sw

Review: This is a series of House and Stargate Atlantis crossovers that take place during an undisclosed time early in both series. The premises is fairly straight forward, as Carson Becket asks his old friend Doctor House to come to Atlantis and put his skills to good use.

What makes this series so good, is houses interaction with the Stargate crew. From staring at Anise's 'rack' to fight an invasion of Goa'uld in Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, to getting Rondney to admit his feelings for Carson, there is never a slow moment in this fun and fast-paced series.

The Steak Series by Keiko Kirin (NC-17)

Title: The Steak Series
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Categories: Romance, Action/Adventure, Drama
Length: Super Epic (140,000+)
Warnings: There's a touch of 'het' in later chapters ("Steak and Motility") due to a mission. Nothing explicit is described.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] keiko_kirin
Website: the keikotorium

Summary: When Jack and Daniel are trapped on a planet, they realize a few things about their friendship and this leads to dinner. Which leads to another dinner...and another...

Review:
Don't allow yourself to be fooled by the name of this series; it's an absolute classic in fandom and rightfully so. Keiko Kirin does an amazing job of taking what could have been a ridiculous cliché and turning it into a journey of discovery between two otherwise completely straight men. Which is, I think we can agree, hard to do even at the best of times.

Every single story in the series is riveting and plot driven, reading more like an episode than a fan fiction only with the added benefit of, well, benefits (if you know what I mean). The characterization in the series is likewise impeccable, not just for the two main characters but for the entire team, and doesn't stray too far afield as the series progresses. In the long run, however, the thing that makes this series standout from the crowd for me is the fact that the intimate relationship between Jack and Daniel is never forced or rushed. They never fall into each others arms and into bed and try to figure it out afterward. No, they move forward in stops and starts, realistically trying a build a relationship that will last and not fall apart when the going gets rough for them.

I honestly can't recommend this series enough, even to those of you who are a little leery of reading this after my warning or the 'silliness' of the name. It's worth the time spent and absolutely wonderful for Jack/Daniel fans, new and old.
