Summary:
The excitement started about a month into summer break, when a group of concerned citizens from a radical church challenged some of the books on the shelf in our teen area. By the time it was all over, they had flooded the library with phone calls and e-mails about the books, the suggestions on our booklists and website, and personally attacked our teen librarian via e-mail and at library board meeting. It was a pretty crazy summer.

Review:
Told in first person, you join Kris as a librarian fresh out of school and in a new job, as his public library becomes mired in a controversy about their teen book selection.

You can practically taste that the writer of this fic is a librarian, and it shows in so many delightful little details of the ins and outs of a public library (possibly my favorite line is "Yay, bibliographic instruction!"). Beyond that, the characterizations are lots of fun, with the cast and judges of seasons seven and eight of American Idol as the various library workers. I can really see Adam as the outgoing young adult selector, Danny as the militant circulation supervisor, Archie as a nervous shelver, Simon as the director, etc.

The story is a fascinating view of censorship issues in libraries through the lens of the personalities of American Idol. The social and political issues may be off-putting to some readers, but I found it all entertaining good fun.
