Mindgames by Lady Ra (NC-17)

Sorry this is so late -- I had to reformat my hard drive, which is proving to be waaay more of a pain in the ass than I'd expected (I'm still downloading drivers, when I can tell which ones I need. It's tough when I have not one, not two, but *three* items helpfully labelled 'base system device'. Grr).

Title: Mindgames by Lady Ra
Fandom: Star Trek: TOS
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Categories: bonding, angst
Length: Long (~17,000 words)

Review:
When Jim's relationship with Spock falls to pieces, he goes to Lady Amanda for advice.

Okay, I have to say this first: Lady Amanda is *awesome*. I don't know what she's like in canon, but in this fic she's loving, playful, and very protective of her son and I just love her to bits. I also like Sarek, who is vastly more restrained, but who adores his wife and loves his son and would clearly do anything for both them. Jim and Spock are also good, but I will admit there is a touch of the melodramatic in their interaction that makes me suspect this is one of Lady Ra's earlier fics. Fortunately, the bulk of this fic is Amanda and Jim and *their* interaction is a thing of beauty. For the first time, I can understand Amanda and Sarek's marriage (and now I want a Vulcan of my very own).

A sweet, moving story of familial affection (plus, you know, some hot man-on-man bonding action).

AKA Steve and Tony versus the tabloids. Really not much more than that, though you get all of the Avengers' reactions to reading the articles, which is awesome.

What can I say? If you like tabloid fic or misunderstanding fic, or just like seeing team banter among the Avengers (except Logan, who doesn't *do* tabloid nonsense) this is the fic for you. Best part? Steve's reaction to the tabloids, which he takes *waaaay* too seriously.
