(The Snappily Titled) Four Times Guy Didn’t Say 'Thank You' And One Time He Did by catwalksalone (R)
Title: (The Snappily Titled) Four Times Guy Didn’t Say 'Thank You' And One Time He Did by catwalksalone
Fandom: Green Wing
Pairing: Guy/Mac
Categories: Humour
Length: Medium (2734 words)
Warning: None

Summary:
Charting the progress of what could almost be a relationship
Review:
This is very nearly a case of the title being longer than the story. It's five very short snippets of interaction between Mac and Guy, focusing on Guy's complete inability to say those two socially useful words. Interestingly, though, by the third occasion he seems to have begun to realise that he probably should be saying something although he's never quite sure what.
The turning-point comes after some unspecified drinking binge when Guy is vomiting into a toilet bowl and Mac is looking after him. It's a spectacularly unromantic scenario, but I've always thought that if a relationship could survive a bout of upchucking then it's probably good to go. Here Mac is shown as a cool, solid, nurturing presence - frankly just the sort of person any one of us would be glad to have around in a crisis - who still manages to find himself drawn to Guy even when Guy is at his spectacular worst.
Matters come to a head (ahem) when Guy is trying to get some quality time alone with his right hand and Mac intervenes. What could be an extremely tacky sequence morphs into just the right amount of tenderness, and it seems that Guy does know how to express his gratitude after all.
There are unfortunately very few (if any) epic-length Green Wing slash stories in existence, so it's reassuring to know that some of the shorter ones are satisfyingly in character and optimistic in tone. This one definitely falls into that category.
