Author's Summary:
Notting Hill AU, written for the i_k prompt, "I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her." Arthur owns a quirky hipster science bookstore. Eames is a world-famous mega-celebrity.

Clearly this calls for a meet-cute.

Review:
One of the longer running Inception fics I have been following has finally been completed after a few years! And, to my delight, it is a wonder from start to finish.

What do I know about Notting Hill? Admittedly, not much. Do you need to know anything about the movie? Heck no, you'll enjoy this fic so much anyway. Here, Arthur's the owner of a book store. Both he and his store are eccentric--Arthur for not really caring about having customers ever, and the book store for only selling applied science books. Good thing Arthur doesn't seem to much care about things like turning a profit, at least at the beginning.

And then Eames, who is this huge celebrity, comes in one day, browses around, and accidentally makes the book store famous. Then he and Arthur get together and the entire thing is glorious. It's not all sunshine and puppies, the relationship is strained greatly by Eames's celebrity status and various secrets he keeps, as well as Arthur being poor at people matters in general, but you never doubt that they'll make it through in the end.

It's so much fun. So much fun. Celebrity names are dropped here and there, the author seems to delight in writing the fic with a certain tongue-in-cheek flair. The side characters, Ariadne especially, have their own lives and worries going on and you never forget that. The writing is smooth and polished, definitely easy to get yourself lost in. Overall, it's just a great fic that's long enough to sink in for a while and get happily lost in.

Review:
I love everything about this fic. The roller coaster that is Mickey and Ian's relationship is beautifully done here, with the added value of Ian being Mickey's boss. It's long, it's plotty, it makes you emotionally invested in these stupid characters who have so many flaws and yet are so perfect together (whoops, spilling my feelings all over this review, haha). It'll make you laugh and it'll make you want to throttle characters because they are being stupi--whoops again.

Ian's the owner of an extraordinarily successful video game company. He and Mickey have never met in Southside though they're both from there, and Mickey ends up working at Ian's company. The attraction is instantaneous and the sex pretty much happens immediately. Of course then there's feelings and Mickey being skittish and misunderstandings and it's glorious. It really is.

This fic is just fun. The ending is unabashedly, almost ridiculously, happy. For all the ups and downs with Ian and Mickey's relationship (and there are many), you never really doubt that the two of them would stay together until the end.

He looks to Arthur, who’s already looking at him, who looks like he’s been looking at him for a long time. He looks tired. Like maybe he’s been looking too long.

Review:
This fic is straight up post-Inception--to the point where Eames is standing in the airport next to the baggage carousel. He and Arthur aren't exactly exhilarated after the events of the movie, and Eames proposes that Arthur pick a destination. This fic takes that trip suggestion and turns it into several trips, where Arthur and Eames go around the world on a sort of vacation with one another.

It's a great little fic. There are brief conversations between Eames and Cobb or Ariadne that are truly amusing. Neither one of them know where Arthur and Eames have gone to and both Arthur and Eames are disinclined to tell them. It's mostly Eames and Arthur falling in love in snippets, brief flashes of time that show different countries and scenarios, with a backdrop of dream sharing.

It's lovely and understated (I have a thing for understatement, go figure). The almost quiet way they fall in love is contrasted with a sharp scene from the dream sharing side of it. This was very enjoyable to read, and Eames's voice is really well done.

Review:
This fic follows Arthur as he discovers dream sharing (in high school, from a friend) to college and beyond. Mostly it's about Arthur and Eames and Eames's very many problems that make one want to punch him in the mouth. Oh wait, was that mostly me? Haha.

This fic was wonderful though. Arthur is perfectly lovely and all Arthur for all that he's young for a decent chunk of the fic. Just a little stiff, a lot focused, and all around competent at what he does. Eames is the forger that Cobb and Mal dig up, the one that Arthur bonds with before--well, there was a reason why I wanted to punch Eames in the mouth, though things do get better later.

The character interactions are amazing. Not everything is shoved at your face, but quietly laid out. For all that Eames can be a jerk, there is something earnest in his interactions with Arthur that saves him from being completely irredeemable. The fic doesn't end perfectly, but it does end on an uplifting note that fits.

There's also a companion piece and a short sequel linked, which just gives the story a bit more depth. A very nice read.

The author doesn't provide a summary, but here's a quick one: Arthur and Eames meet twice fleetingly before they both start in dream sharing. Then they meet again. A series of moments in their lives.

The fic is cute and quick and a bit sparse on details, but all the better for it. The both of them first meet when Arthur is twelve and Eames is fourteen. Eames is kind of pretentious, but so is Arthur, haha. They meet again by chance when they're older, just for a moment. The next time they meet is when they're both in the dream sharing business. Arthur is all competent and really awesome and Eames is just sort of disbelieving and still really awesome.

There's quite a few time skips within the fic. It's basically a showcase of moments in both Eames's and Arthur's life that manage to intersect, but it's wonderful. The fic is really understated, but I'm of the opinion that the author put in just the right amount of details that catch your attention without blatantly leaving everything out on the table. The romance is more inferred than anything else.

This was adorable and lovely and truly a pleasant read.

Review:
Cloud is so awesome in this fic it's almost hilarious.

This is a Cloud who never went to join ShinRa, who never tried to become a SOLDIER, and never went to Midgar, period. Here his mother gets sick and he needs to take care of her, so he puts aside all thoughts of leaving and starts doing what he can to make money to pay for her medical bills.

Then there's news that the president, his son, and the department heads have died, and the company is scrambling and nobody is doing anything about it. Tseng finds Cloud and Cloud finds out that, surprise, he was the president's bastard son. Somehow Cloud becomes president and from there everything is glorious.

No, I mean it. Cloud is the best goddamn president to ever be president. He's just so sensible and just rolls along with things and I love it and him and everything that is happening. This is the ultimate fix it fic without having to resort to time travel, and it's hilarious in an understated way. Cloud fixes the company bit by bit. Then he discovers the Lifestream is not a great energy source because it's finite (among other things) and decides, well, let's fix that too.

Cloud saves the planet by being a great company president. It's so, so great.

It’s not that he trusts Eames completely or anything that ridiculous. It’s just that they’ve worked together before, know each other more than peripherally, and it’s sometimes good to have a familiar face around while Cobb goes even more off the rails and off the grid.

Review:
Now this was lovely and so fluffy and just an all around wonderful read.

Cobb and Arthur are just starting their lives as criminals, but this isn't about that, not really. This is about Arthur and Eames's relationship that unfurls slowly from their first meeting. This is also, almost incidentally, an interesting look at Cobb and Arthur's start, where both of them aren't entirely sure about how to go about things, but Cobb is jumping the gun and not looking back, and Arthur follows behind. Then there's Eames, who somehow just clicks with Arthur, and their relationship is so sweet and kind of aching and then it turns really hot, haha.

I love it. This fic just erupts warm fuzzies from within me. Part of it is that Eames and Arthur don't immediately jump into bed with each other--wait, no, that's not it. They do jump into bed with each other, but all they do is sleep at first. They spend time, over the length of several missions, to build up their relationship (not that they're calling it that). It just makes every time they meet that much more special because it's an unspoken thing with them, something that they almost dare not to air, but it's so full of emotion.

This fic is such a great read if you're in the mood for fluffy, bubbly feelings.

Professional dom!AU, wherein Clayton got full custody of Ian when he was ten years old and Mickey somehow found the redhead’s website, outlining the services he provides.

Review:
Mickey is not exactly someone who seems to be all that submissive (and he's not, outside of specific scenarios). That makes this all the better. I just love how he's still so much himself, but he also likes being tied up and ordered around the bedroom. He even straightforwardly hires himself a dom because it's something he needs and wants. That he meets Ian and they click so well is another matter altogether. An awesome other matter that makes for some really hot scenes.

A few things. Ian does still have other clients that he sees while he's seeing Mickey as well (he's doing this for money, after all). You don't and can't forget this, as Mickey is confronted with that fact a few times, though Mickey himself is all right with this for the most part. There's also a scene at the end where you find out that Ian has a boyfriend, except said boyfriend knows all about Ian's prostituting and is accepting of it (though nothing about Mickey). Still, it was a bit of a jolt for me, and not an entirely pleasant one at that.

But I still enjoyed this fic. There's a lot of sex scenes, but Mickey and Ian's encounters with each other mostly revolve around Mickey's sessions with Ian. So it's understandable (or so I tell myself, um). It's fun and hot and sometimes you want to knock the characters's heads together, but it all works out in the end in a satisfying way.

This is just flat out lovely. This takes Alec and Richard and gives you a snapshot of a moment in their lives that is just about perfect. I love Swordspoint. It's beautiful and tragic and ugh, that book, and this little fic does that gem of a book credit. It sounds so perfectly in line with the words of the book it's like reading from one of the pages--it's that good. It's short and sweet and just rich in details and feelings.

As I said, it's nothing more than a moment in Alec and Richard's lives. Not even a particularly important one, but just them being at home. For all of that it's pretty much perfect. Definitely worth the read.

Review:
Let me just say that the fic isn't exactly unhappy in the end (well, it is, a bit, who am I kidding), but it's definitely of the tone of full of unspoken feelings that go on unfulfilled because of reasons. So if you want a perfectly neat, happy ending then, uh, steer clear (to be honest I like happy endings. I don't know what possessed me to read this [oh wait, I didn't know the ending, ha] but it was just really good).

What do I know about Shameless. Not much, I admit with absolutely no apologies. What I do know is good writing and dynamic characters and words that just tug at my heart and squeeze. In this fic Mickey and Ian have a one night stand that turns out to be not quite a one night stand. They continue to meet each other throughout the weekend; whatever it is that they're doing just falls in their laps and it's completely unexpected, but not unwelcome. It's just sometimes there are circumstances that kill the happy ending (that make me flail and grow a bit weepy). B-but hey, maybe in the future? Maybe?

Uh, in any case. This is just excellent. The romance is bumpy and not perfect, but just wonderful because of that. For all that the fic isn't too long and takes place over the span of a weekend, the relationship just unfolds beautifully. I loved it, even though it also made me sad in the end.

Review:
Eames, Arthur, and Cobb are on the heist, except the heist isn't important, it's just the backdrop to the loveliness that is both Eames and Arthur's relationship. Also, Eames has a beard for just about the entirety of the piece and let me just say that beard burn + Arthur = me flailing around like an idiot.

This fic is just smooth and good and the relationship between Eames and Arthur never gets uncomfortable. Also, the fic is hilarious, what with Cobb in there to keep the two from being too insular, Arthur commenting on what kind of skin he has, and Eames just being Eames. It's also smoking hot once the relationship starts going--sometimes you (or, rather, I) just skip the sex scenes because it can all start sounding the same, but this just had me reading from start to finish. It's a little funny and a lot sexy; a combination that hit just the right note.

There's not too much of relationship talking, but there are undercurrents that round out the entire experience anyway. This is a great fic all around, and I loved reading it. Hopefully you guys will too.

No one suspects Arthur. He's too practical, too organized, too sensible to believe in the supernatural.

Based on the kink meme prompt: Arthur's real name is Cole Sear.

Review:
While this is a crossover with the Sixth Sense, you don't really need to know anything about the movie other than the fact that Cole Sear (Arthur's real name in this fic) can see ghosts.

And let me tell you how much I love that concept, that Arthur has these abilities that he has hidden away his entire life. They're a part of him and he doesn't tell anyone anything, except for maybe hinting towards Mal. The ghosts that haunt him are always present and they usually aren't too troublesome, but they never leave him alone.

This fic takes place a little bit before Inception and a little bit after Inception, seamlessly sliding into place neatly with the movie--like all of this extra business was really happening all along. I really enjoyed the way the author neatly wove the story and the movie together, it was very smoothly done. The relationship Arthur has with Eames is an interesting one; it's not a romance, really, but there's hints of something more. If you're looking for full on romance then this isn't that sort of fic, I would say it's closer to gen than anything else. But it is good, and Eames and Arthur's relationship with one another does take a prominent place in the story.

This is just a really solid piece. Arthur and the rest of them get caught up in some trouble that pings on Eames's suspicions. Said trouble turns even more troublesome and when you couple ghosts and dream sharing... well. It makes for an interesting story, to say the least!

Author's Summary:
Cloud is the Planet's greatest weapon, and if he can't fix old wrongs and battles then he may end up being the means by which it all ends (again).

Review:
I adore FF7 fic. I even more adore the entire time traveling trope that the FF7 fandom uses with complete abandon (seriously, you turn around and there's another one! [honestly, I wish there were more so I have more to read]). It is rare, however, that you find a FF7 time travel fic that is long and complete and good. This fills all three of those!

You start off with the planet dying, which is a main staple in a lot of FF7 time travel fics. Then, of course, said planet catapults Cloud back into time. Except a lot of fics where you start off with Cloud as a cadet, you have Cloud as the kind of invisible guy who hangs around Sephiroth as a child. Which is less creepy than I'm making it sound. Um.

But, seriously, Cloud meets Sephiroth as a child due to the planet being all screwy--a Sephiroth who is experimented on, who is treated as a subject, and who has no real positive guidance. Enter Cloud who isn't all mentally there a lot of the time (the planet isn't exactly the benevolent presence it is in a lot of other fics), but who eventually sees Sephiroth as this child with a horrible life and Cloud grows protective.

Then there's another shift. Cloud is taken away, Sephiroth grows up, and things change. Cloud is determined that events won't follow the same path as his last lifetime, but life is both hard and unexpected. Not everything works out, but there are bright spots along the way. Events grow truly epic--it's not about just a handful of people, it's about saving an entire world that hurts just as much as it helps. Everything grows complicated and nothing is easy. Terrible, terrible things happen. And yet there's still people striving to make the best of things.

The author takes the idea of time travel FF7 fic and makes it their own. A lot of the fics can feel the same after a while, but this goes in original and interesting directions. It's long and very plotty--the romance is there, but much later on and it never takes over the storyline. It's just good and such a well worth it read.

Review:
So a week and a day late (oops), I bear more AU fic. I'm incorrigible. I just really, really love AUs, okay, haha. This is a short fic, but it packs in it a lot of fun.

This one is adorable. It's little and sweet and it has Yusuf doing all kinds of manners of experiments in the apartment and nearly blowing them all up a few times. He also has many, many cats. And before you think this is the Yusuf show (which... I probably would not mind reading, haha, he's really great in this), you have Arthur the foreign exchange student and Eames who is roommates with Yusuf. And there is no angst here, okay, this is happy fun land where everything is great and shiny and the only spot of angst is very obviously not.

And sometimes you just need this, especially when it's cute and well written. Also, Yusuf is hilarious and awesome too. He measures milk with a micro pipette. He manages to get others to do so as well. He blows things up! For science! And the romance between Eames and Arthur is just fun and perfect. Just a great little fic to read, especially if you need a pick-me-up.

Review:
I love a lot of different things in fics, but one of my absolute favorite things (if a bit self-indulgent at times) is an outside character POV (whether minor character or a new one entirely) as they peer into the world of whatever fandom the fic is part of. This fic takes that premise and expands on it beautifully. The fic's POV character is an original character who's a detective investigating various cold cases--among those cold cases are a couple where Watanuki and Doumeki were involved in.

If you're familiar at all with the manga you'll recognize the cases that they're talking about and the circumstances revolving around the people who've died. But now you're seeing it through a fresh pair of eyes--a pair of eyes that isn't part of Watanuki and Doumeki's supernatural world.

You just start feeling rather gleeful and anticipatory about the fact that you, the reader, know what's going on, while the main character doesn't. What's also appreciated is that the POV character isn't treated like an idiot, but rather someone who is actually pretty good at their job (they did turn up Watanuki, after all) who just doesn't have nearly all of the facts.

Then you have Watanuki being so... him and Doumeki shouldering his way into the situation in his rather stoic way. It's so good and it makes me happy. This is just a great fic to read.

Now, admittedly, I have many 'favorite' cliches (if only because I can never decide what I really like best). One of those cliches that I happen to enjoy is taking a character from a show and having them be a girl. And not turn into a girl because to my mind that's an entire cliche to itself (it is! Really!), but having the character always be a girl. This is one of those fics and it's done beautifully.

The writing will make you laugh and then cry and then want to beat the characters (and maybe the author except the author has to continue writing for the sake of everyone but mostly just me) and then love everyone and everything. It's complex and just so well done it's amazing.

What I love is how the fic doesn't shy away from the fact that George is a girl but she's still George. You don't just stick a character in a female body and call it a day; you take the character, keep the core of what they are, and still keep in mind that they're female now. How people react around George is slightly different because of it, and that's such an important detail.

The relationship between Mycroft and George... Honestly, I just want to swoon all over the place (which is horribly embarrassing, okay). It's steady and a little more low key, but it's wonderful and not quite perfect, but I'm calling it perfect because I love it so.

Just set aside a good chunk of time to read this because it's so well worth the time.

Review:
While technically this is a complete series, I figure I might as well rec the entire series all together because it is flat out amazing. You want something that is both hilarious and capable of giving you so many feelings about short homicidal alchemists? You want something so cleanly written and smooth that you barely notice time going by? You want awesome characters being even more awesome, even when they kind of fail? Yeah. Read this. You really won't regret it.

This fic takes the timeline of FMA and yanks it around by having Ed survive his attempts at human transmutation, but Al didn't. I know, I know, depressing, and it is, but this fic takes place several years past this event when Ed is known as the Demon Alchemist who goes around killing people who are murderers and pretty much case closed guilty parties. He's more than a little broken, but he's somehow still hilarious. He gets embroiled with both Roy (who treats him with a healthy dose of wariness and slight fear) and Hughes (who is as crazy as Ed, only in a different way) as well as this plot that threatens to destroy the world.

The character interactions are the best. The many layers of Ed interacting with Roy interacting with Hughes interacting with everyone else and the different relationships each person has to one another--well. And it's so true to canon it's amazing. Also, the funny. Ed perches in trees because that's a good vantage point! He frightens the pants off of people on purpose! Well. Sometimes.

The plot does get more serious later on, but it never dips into being too angst-heavy or without any laughter. It just makes me happy to read (not to mention even rereadings keep me up at night because I have to finish it--I may have a slight problem. Just slight.)

That's the thing about Hollywood--everyone has a Hollywood story.

Looove this. There is little I like more than a well written AU, and this is definitely that. Arthur is a producer because of course he can get chaos to be somewhat orderly and Dom is this crazy director with a black mark the size of everest and Eames is this magnificent actor. It fits. It all fits and it's seamless, the placing of characters from Inception into this Hollywood story that the author has created. Granted, I have no idea how anything works in Hollywood, and the author is upfront with that as well, so probably inaccuracies abound, but who cares. It's believable enough for me, haha.

Events in the fic mirrors Inception universe rather well. Mal's still dead and Dom still has a black mark on him, while Arthur is still stubbornly loyal. You place Eames in the role of an actor because, you know, forger, and you still have Saito as their financier. It's amazing how well everything is mirrored in this AU, down to Yusuf being some sort of genius with cameras and Ariadne being rather new, but Dom's assistant director.

It flows smoothly from one scene to the next, with each character being so them that half the time you want to shake them and the other half of the time you just want them to make out already. Eames and Arthur's relationship is this give and take sort of thing with both of them being stubborn and kind of stupid in their own way. You can see the way they both care for each other and when they finally get together--well. Finally. But in the best of ways, heh.

This fic also gives you some truly delightful original characters in the form of Arthur and Eames's assistants, who are scarily competent and just really fun to read. All in all, this is a great AU with movie making and actors, but mostly Arthur and Eames just trying to figure out where they're going and how they're going to get there with a lot of misunderstandings, but the eventual happy ending as well.

Author's Summary:
What's with all this fighting fair? Naruto's going to win ninja-fashion, by hook by crook and all within the rules... technically.

Review:
Admittedly, this is mostly cute as well as being good for a quick laugh. This takes place during the chuunin exam and Naruto has basically decided that cheating is as good a way as any to pass the test. It definitely works out for him, much to the chagrin of the other characters.

It's light, it's fast, and it's fun. Naruto's cheating, but to great effect. He definitely gets what he needs to do done. It's blunt and in your face, but it works (much like Naruto himself, haha). It's just flat out enjoyable to read. The fic does end a bit abruptly, but you don't really need more than what is given, and what you see is basically what you get.

Don't expect anything too deep; it's just a little fic packed full of fun.

Author's Summary:
Naruto’s friends are gone, his lover is dying, Konoha is destroyed, and Madara’s second return has pushed the entire world to the brink. Hunted and harried, Naruto is sent back in time to upend Madara’s plan before it even starts, and sets about changing everything. Butterfly effect nothing: the world is at stake, and Naruto is hardly about to let it fall to ruin once more. Not while he’s still breathing.

Review:
Here. Have something that's completely amazing and long and plotty and did I mention amazing yet? Include a trope I absolutely love (time travel!), the fact that it's over 100k words, and that it's actually complete (do any of you have any idea how hard it is to find a complete time traveling fic. Do you. I didn't think so.) and you have the recipe for something truly special.

This fic. This fic just punches you in the gut with the angst and then the fluff and so many make shift happy families that make you (well, me) squeeze your pillow in joy because there's nobody else near enough for you to half-strangle in your glee. It starts off depressing what with Naruto sending himself back into time and yet leaving Sasuke behind because there's no other choice if they want to make things better, and ugh, your heart starts hurting from the beginning. Naruto sends himself back to the time just before the genin teams are assembled, and makes himself at home in Konoha under a new name (Kurama; he's called this for the rest of the fic) as he pretends to be an Uzumaki survivor.

It's a fix-it fic. It fixes just about everything and it does it unashamedly and with so much fluff. There is angst to balance out the fluff, but it's such a... bonding fic. Not just romance wise (which comes slowly), but friendships! Families that aren't blood related! If you want a sure-fire way to rocket a fic into my heart it would be make-shift families that love each other.

This doesn't happen quickly. You have Kurama (future!Naruto, remember) slowly getting the ball rolling. He collects Naruto and somehow collects Sasuke and Sakura and they learn how to be a true team as Kakashi and Kurama teach them. The friendships that form, the way that they're so much stronger together than apart, is just really heart warming.

The romance is sloooow. But is awesome. Kurama was in love with Sasuke (future!), but there's absolutely no way he'll get that relationship back, and the fact that both he and future!Sasuke acknowledge that actually made me flat out not want Kurama in a relationship for a while. But somehow the author manages to make the fic and relationships progress enough that it felt natural that Kurama and Kakashi grow closer and fall in love with one another.

It does feel self-indulgent, but in the best of ways and without going too crazy. It's fun. It's sometimes silly, sometimes sad, and just rather fluffy. If fluff isn't your cup of tea then I'd steer clear because this really ramps up the warm fuzzies after a while. It's a fic that turns the team into a family and manages to make everything better, and sometimes that's all that you want to read. This more than delivers.
