Title: Days In The Light Of
Fandom: Watchmen
Pairing: Adrian/Dan
Categories: AU, Angst, Post-Canon, Sad Stories
Length: Medium (4,000)
Warnings: Death-Fic, Relativley Unhappy ending

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anactoria
Website: Master Post of Doom

Summary: The bombs fall anyway.

Review: This series of linked ficlets packs a big emotional wallop, without sacrificing characterization. Anactoria has a wonderfully bare bones style that lends itself well to the short story form she uses in this series.

Each of the ficlets, all around 800 words long, can stand on their own. But together they create a heart-wrenching picture of the apocalypse. Painfully bittersweet and hopeful at the same time this story is worth a read even if you're not familiar with the Watchmen fandom.

Days In The Light Of

Solidarity by Anactoria (R)

Title: Solidarity
Fandom: Watchmen
Pairing: Adrian/Dan
Categories: Action/Adventure, AU, Angst, Pre-Slash, Post-Canon, Romance
Length: Epic (46,750)
Warnings: Implied dub-con

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anactoria
Website: Master Post of Doom

Summary: It's 1992 and this isn't Utopia.

Review: This is the Watchmen Fandom's answer to V is for Vendetta. In the wake of canon events a new, frightening government party has come to power. They have a stranglehold on the country and their aim is to stamp out all 'immoral' influences. Starting with masks.

Part of what I like about V is for Vendetta is how they showed the horrors of the government through the plight of a handful of citizens with little to no contact with the world at large. Solidarity uses the same set up. Almost the entire story takes place in one building and you learn about the government atrocities through the experiences of a handful of people.

It's a compelling and straight forward story about two people falling in love despite everything and it ends happily which is a nice change of pace from the usual distopian epics.

Now, as Before by Etherati (NC17)

Title: Now, as Before
Fandom: Watchmen
Pairing: Daniel/Walter (Nite Owl/Rorschach)
Categories: AU, Horror, Pre-canon, Romance
Length: Long (24,500)
Warnings: Zombies, gore, violence

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] etherati
Website: n/a

Review: It's the zombie apocalypse and the Watchmen characters have gotten caught in the middle of the claticlism. Rorschach has been infected with the zombie virus, and now they have to decide what to do about it.

Rorschach is creepily sweet in this story, he's desperately trying to keep from attacking Daniel, while still sticking around to protect his best friends. Daniel isn't helping matters by his refusal to give up on Rorschach.

This story is one of the creepiest, most compelling zombie stories I've read in a long time. It handle's the quite dread of the unstoppable apocalypse without flinching from showing the violent attacks of the zombie horde. Etherati walks the line between the two types of horror masterfully, leaving you feeling hopeful and horrified at the same time and the story is only made better by [livejournal.com profile] liodain beautiful illustrations.

The fic slows down a bit after the apocalypse is finished, but it helps the story to tie in nicely to canon.

Review: This is a tribute to the Comedian from the Watchmen. It’s was done for a challenge about wise men and really highlights the Comedian’s rather odd take on wisdom as well as his triumphs and failings. The vid is made up of the opening of the Watchmen movie and the various flashbacks the other heroes have while remembering his life.

It’s not a happy piece but it is very true to the Watchmen canon. It’s a good video to watch even if you’re not a Watchmen buff but there are a lot of interesting tidbits that really jump out at you if you are a Watchmen junky.
