Fanvid: They Want More by bironic (R)

Title: They Want More
Fandom: Jurassic Park trilogy
Music Used: "I Want More" by Elton John (edited demo from Lestat the musical)
Pairing: gen
Categories: crack, dark humor
Length: 3:31 minutes
Warnings: per creator: "Dinosaur-related violence, gore, cruelty to animals, morbid humor. One clip has possible overtones of sexual threat. There is lightning at :23-:24 and 1:18-1:19."

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bironic
Author Website: unknown

Author's Summary:
The inevitable outcome of cloning giant carnivores.

Review:
Okay guys, are you fans of dinosaurs? How about dinosaurs serenading you about how bloodthirsty they are and how much they like eating people, complete with full visuals? If this sounds like your type of humor/fun, then this is the vid for you. Bironic must have found every moment of dinos stalking and chomping down on people (and animals) in the Jurassic Park trilogy and set it to Elton John's vampires-bloodlust-for-eating-people song from the defunct Lestat musical. Morbid, yes, but also darkly humorous.

Fandom: Jurassic Park III
Pairing: Alan Grant/Bill Brennan
Categories: Romance, Action
Length: Long (app. 35.000 words)
Warnings: dinosaurs

Author on LJ: n/a

Summary: In the beginning, there was Billy...

Review:
The story starts before the plot of JP III. It tells us about a possible way how Alan Grant and Billy Brennan met. The way Sithkitten tells the tale of the how the "epic love story" starts is entertaining and a great preset for the actual JP III plot. The story is split in three parts. Part One is the getting to know that had me smirk all through it. Part Two is the aftermath of the movie from Alan Grant's POV. Part Three is a short glimpse into the show down of the movie from Bill Brennan's POV.

Sithkitten's style of writing is well paced and allows the characters to grow and develop. I greatly enjoy re-reading her contribution to the smallish fandom of JP III. Dinosaurs and smart guys is most of the time the recipe for a great story and this fic is no exeption.

Summary: No force on Earth or Heaven would get Dr. Grant to set foot on Isla Sorna - or so he thought.

Review:
Tarlan starts right at the beginning of the third movie and shows the events from Dr. Grant's point of view. This gives a much more personal tinge to the plot and has the reader experience the emotions of a veteran jurassic park survivor. If you know the movie you will of course know what is happening in the story but I still recommend reading Tarlan's retelling of it since the personal POV makes for an interesting take on what is happening.

I like Tarlan's writing and I've come across interesting and exciting stories of hers in various fandoms. In No Force on Earth or Heaven she convincingly replays the third Jurassic Park movie and shows us how one of the protagonists feels during the events that transpire.

Summary: Scenes from the post-JPIII Alan and Billy romance

Review:
The Last of his Breed is a story that always manages to make me happy. I love the interaction between the characters and all of the supporting characters are so much fun to read. Most of all I can't help but love Alan's peers who are sometimes more helpful with the Alan/Billy romance than Alan really wants.

Like others I loved dinosaurs as a kid (and in fact I still do) so the Jurassic Park world and the fandom are something that has been intriguing me for a long time. When I read The Last of his Breed I couldn't help but enjoy the insight we get into the world of academics. Even though the professor/student trope is something that people like to use in AUs and ARs, here it is something that's canon compliant and that doesn't just serve as the setting for the romance.

Amy Throck-Smythe is a fandom writer who is writing original fiction now that is also being published. Of her fandom work only The Last of his Breed and a story from Boy meets Boy are still available on her website.

In an alternate ending to the movie, Alan is grabbed (very nearly literally) by a pack of velociraptors. He soon learns that raptors are far more intelligent than he'd ever imagined.

Epic length Yuletide fic! And it's good! Santa was *very* nice this year.

This fic is all about the raptors -- Alan is primarily there for the raptors to have someone to play off of and Billy's primarily there to... satisfy the prompt, I'm guessing.  As such, if you're looking for an Alan/Billy romance fic this probably isn't your best choice.  However, if you're interested in learning more about how velociraptors interact (in the JP universe, at any rate) then you should definitely check this fic out.  The author has not only managed to create a fascinating society among the velociraptors, but s/he's also populated said society with a bevy of intriguing and wonderfully fleshed out OCs (my favorite is definitely Bob).  You also have a bit of mystery as to why Alan is treated as he is by the pack, as well as quite a bit of action (as they are still on an island of dinosaurs), and even some elements of hurt/comfort as the raptors help Alan recover from his wounds.

Up Close and Personal is a unique and intriguing entry into the Jurassic Park fandom, perfect for dinosaur lovers.
