Summary: When John Blake scribbles a quotation on a brick wall one winter morning, he's just trying to win a little luck.

What he doesn't expect to get is a reply.

Review: Pagination has a way with words. While short, this story packs a wallop and drops you down the rabbit hole into a world where a city is as alive as its people. Darkly, hauntingly, creepy the world building will stick with you for quite a while after you finish the story.

Pagination writes one of my favorite John Blake voices. He's very in character with the movie characterization. He is also a kid dropped in over his head and left to pick up the pieces. He never dwells on his past as one of Gotham's children, but he never loses his soul deep connection to the city either.

The ending is ambiguous, but fits well with the story and supports the feeling that this takes place in a world almost identical to that of Nolan's Movie Series.

Summary:Serial Killer AU

There's a serial killer lose in Gotham City. Since when is that news? There have always been no end to killings in Gotham. John Blake has made a hobby out of trying to gather all of the information on them that he can while he's still working his way through the police academy. Everyone needs a hobby, right?

Unfortunately John is a little too smart for his own good at times.

Review: This is an interesting take on the Serial Killer AU trope. The main character arc, isn't about the serial killer (Or rather the family of serial killers), but instead about John Blake's coming to a place where he can accept his new family's issues.

Menirva is one of my favortie author's because she does an amazing job, writing from mulitple viewpoints, and using this writing style to give a larger view of the world, than any one character could give themselves.

This is particularly obvious in this story, because each of the different family members has a different reason, and view of killing, and why it is necessary. Also Bane and 'Tommy' are split personalities, both of whom get their time in the spotlight, and have different opinions and motivations.

This is a nice, fast paced read, that you can enjoy even if you're not familiar with the Batman Begins fandom, though you might miss a few of the easter egg call backs, though not the one about Bruce Wayne's weapon of choice being a Baseball Bat

A multi-fandom vid for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon's celebration of female characters.

Review:
calapine makes an unconventional but beautiful choice with her song, and for something so epic in scope, she makes it impactful on a personal scale as well, and deeply uplifting. This tribute is amazing not only for its subject matter, but also for its diversity. Women are not just awesome when they are gorgeous and kick-ass and come out with both guns blazing, but they're also awesome when they're doing science experiments, or being brave, or making difficult decisions.

Women can be some of the most harshly judged characters on screen -- because often, women are their own harshest critics. This vid highlights some unexpected choices, and reminds us that every single woman is more than just the few seconds we see them on screen -- they each have their own stories.

Summary: If there are any two men less likely to share their toys than Bane and Bruce, John doesn't want to meet them. Also? John is not a toy, goddammit.

Review: This was going to be my rec for last weeks Humor theme.

It is absolutely hilarious, and surprisingly true to the 'Batman Begins' fandom for all that it's basically a romantic comedy between three men.

I can't say much more without ruining the various punch-lines, but this is definitely a story to read if your in the mood to roll on the floor laughing.

Summary: John works in a smoothie shop.

He has a knack, a second sense if you will, for being able to look at a person and know what they're going to order. It's not the most spectacular gift in the world but he likes being able to figure people out and he's never wrong.

Except for this scruffy asshole who is clearly just ordering the wrong thing to fuck with him.

How is he even finishing an extra-large?

Review: Menirva has a real knack for writing sarcastic characters that I can't seem to resist reading. Also coffe!shop AUs and Domesticity are my guilty pleasure.

So a fic that mixes together coffee smoothie shops, threesomes, and sweet romance with League of Shadows members Bane, Basard, and Talia, well let's just say I couldn't resist.

That being said the first couple chapters revolve around sexy-times and oowy-goowy romance, before you get to the plot. It's necessary for the plot though, so try not to let it scare you off.

Please do pay attention to the warnings though

Review: I'm a complete sucker for found family fic, and this is one awesome found family. Instead of Batman picking up all the boys and bringing them into the bat-family, Robin "John" Blake adopts them. After all he's a sucker for strays.

John Blake in this fic is some mixture of Matthew Swift, one part Dick Grayson, and one part Havey Dent. He's a smart mouthed, Jiminy Cricket of a man, who isn't willing to take Bruce Wayne's crap and will look out for his family and Gotham before he'll bow to anyone's whims.

Pairing: John Blake/Bane/Basard

Length: Super!Epic (116,000)
Warnings: Dubious Consent, Stockholm Syndrome, Canonical Character Death

Summary: While Talia dies trying to bring Gotham's reckoning, Bane recovers from his wounds. This leaves a broken protector with no one to protect. In this broken psychological state he latches onto the next person that he feels needs him as their new protector.
John Blake was just trying to give Gotham hope.
Barsad just needs someone to worship.

Review: This is a series made up of two long fics, and a couple of virginity that fill in gaps in the story and add a little bit of lightheartedness to the sweetly dark main stories.

Minerva's take on Bane is awesomely creepy while somehow managing to be sweet. You'll find yourself rooting for his relationship with John despite the more unhealthy aspects and you'll just want to cuddle Basard who is adorable and cuddly, without loosing the edge of a killer.

Normally this type of a pairing freaks me out, since it is inherently imbalanced in power. But Minerva takes her time with the story allowing it to build slowly and realistically. By the end of "Clipped" the trio's relationship seems natural, with Bane and Basard accepting what John can give without asking for more and John willing to find the place where his morals and theirs overlap.

"Caged" is darker in some ways and lighter in others. It uses a separation of the trio and the reappearance of Bruce and Commissioner Gordon to bring John fully into control of his needs and his position as the new head of the League of shadows. All while maintaining a believable story pacing that makes his realizations seem like natural extensions of the situation and John's personality. Which is truly impressive in a dark fic.

Bored while waiting for their father to finish his paperwork, Jimmy and Babs wonder around the police station looking for something fun. They end up bumping into Bruce Wayne...

I originally had a completely different fic in mind for Fluff Week, but the minute I finished this I just knew I had to rec it. ragdoll987 lays down the fluff without making the characters act OOC and while managing to bring some beautiful character interaction. Babs is adorable, Jimmy absolutely endearing, Bruce extremely charming and the Commissioner surprisingly crafty. All in all, a delightful, lighthearted fic.

Ragdoll is perhaps best known for her Star Trek XI fics, but she has also made some great contributions to the new Batman Fandom. In "To Serve and Protect" the partnership between Commissioner Gordon and Batman is solidified and develops into something more. Things get more complicated in "Suits and Suitors" when Bruce Wayne enters Gordon's life.

While the attraction between them comes a bit early on the story - too early perhaps - the development of their romantic relationship (and of their partnership as a whole) is quite well handled and the Batman/Gordon/Bruce "triangle" which shows up in the second fic a delight. All in all, these are two interesting relationship-centered fics.
