Summary: Avatar Fanart Series, by blue-ten.

Review: I chose this series because of both the art quality and the it’s content: I love Avatar and for me artists choices really capture what the show is all about. This is a series of five pieces, each one showcasing one of Avatar’s protagonists: Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko. Each piece tells of aspects of each characters personality and how they are portrayed of cannon.

Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko’s pieces are pretty straight forward. Aang is the duality between his playful self and the Avatar, the background with the representation of each bending color and traits is amazingly detailed. Sokka follows this same guide, playful and warrior, his face painting is one of the best things here and in the show.

Katara’s piece is less detailed, but equally good. She is seen in her Fire tribe disguise, which is a favorite of mine - she looks older and more womanly, and twice as deadly in this arc. She is also shown with both her abilities as a bender, water and blood bending. I don’t like Zuko’s piece as much, probably because I would love to have seen other sides of him, no pun intended.

And then there is Toph, the last and the best! I love the angles and how we see front and back of Toph. At first I saw Toph in her smirkful glory and then I went back to look at her as the proper daughter and lady of court. This pic reminded me why I love Toph so much and how complex her character is - which is great, because she can be seen by some people as a mere comic relief by Sokka’s side. I adore the shading and the way the light is set, the cool and neutral colors just make the whole art stand out.

Do check the artist’s other Avatar works, they are really good too.

Author's Summary:
During a raid Zhao captures Zuko and Sokka. They escape with dificulty, but surviving the uncharted earthebender territory and each other is the real challenge.

Review:
In this AU of season one a Zuko captured and raped by Zhao after their battle escapes with Sokka, who is cuffed to him. Forced to co-operate with each other, their relationship is just as rocky as you would expect, with romance blooming very gradually between the hurt and distrustful boys. Zhao is believable as the villain; you can image that the man who thought nothing of killing the moon could be as cruel as this. It's kind of like seeing a more realistic Avatar, the behind the scenes of the more kid-friendly main story. The darker places this fic goes, as well as the politics it explores, feel like different facets of the same canon.

This story isn't without its flaws. Spelling and grammar mistakes are rife, and the comma usage makes some of the sentence structure a bit jarring. Overall though, the great characterisation and plot are more than enough to make up for these little irritations.

3:13 dialogue. "Zuko... you should grow a mustache." Aang and Zuko were stuck in that green stuff for a long time before the Sun Warriors found them.

Review:
A short and sweet fic full of hilarious IC banter between Aang and Zuko as they wait for their rescue.

As much as she intensely dislikes it, Katara understands why Zuko had to join them. What she doesn't understand is why he and Sokka have to spend every waking moment in each other's company.

Review:
This is a delightful fic wherein Sokka and Zuko bond by doing stupid things together (with the quick-tempered Zuko goaded by Sokka), try to one up each other when boasting about their girlfriends, and pretty much become BFFs. Katara is an exasperated witness to their strange boyish bonding rituals, and her reactions to the two are hilariously and touchingly in character.

Author's Summary:
In a modern AU, Zuko has to deal with settling in a new school after expulsion, dealing with an angry ex and an abusive father. Maybe his new found friendships and growing closeness with Sokka will help him make it through.

Review:
This is without a doubt the best and longest Zukka fic I've ever read. It's a slow burn modern AU romance, with Zuko's conflicts with his father easily translated into a story about Zuko dealing with child abuse, his own hangups concerning his family, and coming of age with the help of his newfound friends, the Gaang. Though as the summary says Sokka does help him deal with all of this, this is not the story of an unrealistically co-dependent relationship. I find it hard to believe a coming of age story really is such if it's about two people literally unable to function without each other, but this is thankfully a story where Zuko finds his own strength with a little bit of help. And it's all the more satisfying for it.

The POV jumps between Zuko and Sokka, and their slow realisations of their feelings for each other - and for another boy - are handled gracefully and at a realistic speed, with a minimum of melodrama. This pleases me, as what often turns me off when it comes to high school AUs is the absurdly high amount of stupid misunderstandings and subsequent stupid drama. Though all the Gaang is of high school age and scenes take place there, it isn't the focus of the fic, with most of the story happening around rather than because of high school. So if like me you don't usually like high school AUs, never fear, as this fic is missing the vast majority of the negative tropes associated with the genre.

Sokka and Zuko's relationship is sweet and well paced, with male bonding turning slowly into slash without feeling forced at all. I love the pacing of this fic, with Zuko slowly dealing with his problems rather than jumping right into another relationship, and Sokka slowly realising that he has feelings for a boy. The switching POV means we know exactly what both the characters are thinking, making this a gentle romance with a minimum of drama and a maximum of good feelings for the reader.

Author's Summary:
Set after episode 3:12, "The Western Air Temple." The gaang hones their skills playing a game of Hide and Seek, during which Zuko finds that he and Sokka make a surprising effective team.

Review:
I'm a sucker for Sokka and Zuko interaction, be it slashy or friendship. This is a fun fic about team bonding, but mostly about the growing kinship between the two boys. Zuko, having just joined the Gaang, is still hesitant to show vulnerability, and keenly aware of his frosty welcome. I like the way this fic uses Sokka's curiousity and strategic mind as the starting point for his respect for Zuko. It's a glimpse at the growth of a friendship and a mutual respect that my Zukka heart loves to see. It's also a bit of a character study of all the Gaang, as we see their individual strategies in the game and their reactions to having their asses kicked by the Zuko and Sokka dreamteam.

Summary:Note: Tears were shed in the process of making this AMV

So um...everyone knows I have feelings about the season finale of Korra. I have a HUGE rant on my Tumblr so if you want to know those feelings...just give that a read.

Anyhow, I knew I wanted to make a video that is a tribute to both the build up to and the finale itself. And after a little thought, I knew I wanted to do that by paralleling Korra and the Krew's journey with Aang and Gaang's journey. Though it starts off despondent and hopeless, it ends with a resounding cry of victory.

Review: The Summary pretty much sums it up. This is a gorgeous tribute to both Aang and Korra and their paralleled journey's to growing up
